“Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm”. Daniel 6:3

Daniel was the leading president of three presidents that oversaw 120 princes during the reign of king Darius. The king preferred Daniel because of his honesty and integrity. This was a new king, but he already knew that something was different about Daniel. The king discerned an excellent or an extraordinary spirit and ability in Daniel. There was no hope for fraud or looting as long as Daniel was around. He was not ambitious for power or seeking to be in command. He was one who could be trusted to serve.  Daniel not only had seniority in this group, he had superiority. That he possessed “an excellent spirit” meant Daniel was a Spirit-filled man. The king had such confidence in him that he placed Daniel next to himself in position and power.

This was a great testimony for Daniel and a challenge to all of us to have the same kind of attitude. Do you have an excellent spirit? Are you easy to work with? Do you work hard and do your best at what you do? As Christians, representing the Lord, we should do our best to bring honor to Him. Without power for excellence you cannot stand out in life. As Christians, we have been divinely ordained to live in dominion and subdue every opposition. This is only attainable to those that seek to possess the power and spirit of excellence.
2 Corinthians 5:20, “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God”.
1 Corinthians 10:31,”whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God”.
