Treasuring & Focusing On the Word of God
Your Word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You! Psalm 119:11
There is tremendous power in the Word of God as indicated by Psalm 119:11. God’s Word prevents immoral, unfavorable, damaging, and destructive living.
This verse contains one of the principles that will help us keep our lives clean before the Lord. We are to remember and have delight in the Word of God because God’s Word has a cleansing effect in our lives.
John 15:3—Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
What you do with the Bible will determine what God does with you.
In Psalm 119:11, we find the best thing… the Word, hidden in the best place… the heart, for the best purpose… “So I might not sin.” Beloved, if you have no regard for the importance of Scripture in your life, then do not be surprised if you are ineffective in your service to Christ. Truth is needed in the heart in order to make immediate choices and decisions and to recognize danger or deceptions.
The psalmist “hid” God’s Word in his heart. What does this mean?
Hiding the Word of God involves treasuring and memorizing it. We are to treasure God’s Word as a person would treasure a chest of gold, or a diamond ring. Having this attitude will help us to keep our lives clean. When we value the Word of God, it will affect our lives for good because we consider it important.
Do you hide or treasure The Word in your heart? Is it valuable to you?
Hiding the Word involves reading, studying, and memorizing the Scripture. We are to internalize God’s truth so that the principles of His Word will be externalized in our lives to bless and challenge others and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.
Are you constantly hiding the Word of God in your heart and living it out in your life? If not, begin today! Many believers remain weak because they fail to store up in their minds helpful passages from the Word of God. Apparently, they do not realize that in times of stress, sorrow, or temptation, the Holy Spirit can bring those portions to their remembrance to comfort, warn, and direct them. Let me challenge you to get into the Word and let it get into you! It will help you to resist temptation and keep your life clean. This is one of the challenges of Scripture.
Colossians 3:16—Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Psalm 37:31—The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.
If we are going to make our heart a comfortable home for the Lord, we need to value and concentrate on the Word of God.
Welcome to the month of May 2017, may you be filled with the Knowledge of The Word.
Remain blessed,
Yours in Him,
